Step by Step Process on How to Jump-Start a Car

Before you begin, you’ll want to make sure you have a set of high-quality jumper cables. It’s also required that you have a friend nearby or an emergency car service you can reach out to. The reason for this is because you’ll need another working vehicle there to help you jump-start your car. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, here’s how to jump-start a car:

  1. You’ll want to begin by having the vehicle with the working battery park across from the vehicle with the bad battery.
  2. Ensure both vehicles are turned off with their parking brakes engaged.
  3. Open the hoods and locate the positive and negative terminals on both vehicles.
  4. Connect the red clamp from the jump-starting cables to the positive terminal of the vehicle with the dead battery.
  5. Connect the other red clamp to the positive terminal of the vehicle with the working battery. Ensure that no ends of the cable are touching each other.
  6. Connect the black clamp to the negative terminal of the vehicle with the working battery.
  7. The final black clamp should be connected to an unpainted metal surface on the vehicle with the dead battery.
  8. Start the vehicle with the working battery and let it run for a couple of minutes.
  9. You should now be able to start the vehicle with the dead battery.
  10. Once the vehicle has started, you can remove the battery cables in the reverse order that they were put on.
  11. Keep the engine running on the vehicle that was just started for at least ten minutes to ensure the once dead battery gets a good charge.
  12. You can now be on your way to tackle Acworth adventures again after your vehicle has been jump-started.

Additional Car Battery & Jump Starting Advice

It’s unfortunate when you find yourself in a situation where you need a jump-start. However, with the proper knowledge and assistance, you won’t have to be stranded on the side of Canton roads for too long. Let’s go over some additional advice we have for you regarding car batteries and jump-starts:

  • Having a roadside assistance service is a great way to take one less stress off your shoulders since they can help you jump-start your vehicle.
  • Try starting your vehicle and take note of the noises it’s making. A clicking sound when you start your vehicle could mean you need a starter replacement.
  • Your vehicle has many components that could lead to it not starting. It’s best to schedule a service appointment to regularly check your vehicle’s starting system among other things to ensure you’re always prepared.
