GMC is a division of General Motors since 1902 with the original name “Grabowsky Motor Company,” which transitioned to “Rapid Motor Vehicle Company.” In 1911, GM created the General Motors Truck Company by folding the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and another subsidiary into it. By 1912, the Rapid names was dropped and the name was changed to GMC.
